Are Scooter Companies Selling Your Data?

If they are, they don't admit it.
In a year-old (a long time in the tech world) report in the San Diego Union-Tribune , scooter companies said this when asked if they were selling customer data:

“There are no other revenue streams we’re interested in,” said Travis VanderZanden, CEO and founder of scooter company Bird. “We think our business model is renting the vehicle. We think that’s the best way to monetize the service. We will never advertise on the Birds and we would never share or sell customer data or anything silly like that.”

"LimeBike’s (CEO) Dreiman said ridership is “our primary revenue stream right now. We are exploring other revenue streams through partnerships, whether it’s advertising or partnering with other private companies. But right now because ridership is actually quite high, we’re able to run a sustainable business.“

In their denials, neither CEO's response draws a distinction between possible sale of specific, user data and aggregated, anonymous dataCheck out the full article here:

Here's a run-down on the scooter biz revenue from TechCrunch (another caution: it's a year old). It suggests there will be plenty to come from ride revenue alone.
